*Just a heads up as the protagonist Anrik is transgender, all blurbs that I could find references to Anrik as a he, so I have taken my queue from there for my synopsis, this is the only time in the review this will happen.
Anrik's mother has just sold him to the highest bidder; as the husband to the daughter of an old friend of her's Grolog, who is an Orc. As a half elf living in the city this is the worst possible thing ever, he is pretty certain that Orcs (even half orcs) are not attractive in the least and how is he supposed to live in the middle of nowhere!? Exhausting all avenues he can think of to get out of this mess Anrik resigns himself and heads off to be apported to the middle of nowhere. However, once he arrives, he stumbles upon a scathingly, brilliant idea! What if he pretended to be a girl to get out of this marriage!? Surely, Grolog would be furious at his mom and send him packing back home but like with all "brilliant" plans it backfires in his face and Glorog and his five daughters welcome him with open arms!
With a title like that if you didn't think the word adorable wasn't going to be in my first sentence you were very wrong. This was so stinking adorable!!
Anrik is absolutely wonderful, I love how she just starts thinking of herself as a girl rather quickly. There isn't really this epiphany moment for her she just is a girl pretty much from the first moment she puts on the dress. And to be fair I am not even sure she realizes that, but from the readers perspective it's fairly obvious. Her crush on Eka is immediate too and that is completely adorable, but I think probably where her biggest concern lies, not so much about the being the girl thing but being a girl that has a crush on a girl. This is completely understandable too as marriage seems to be more of a business transaction for elves than a love match so culturally, I do not think lesbians are something she would have come across at all.
What I loved, loved about this is something I can't say because it is a giant spoiler! That being said Grolog and his family are wonderful people!
This was a very quick, adorable little story about finding yourself even if it does take some silly circumstances for it to happen!
