Oyster Girl by Joyce Chng and Illustrated By Teressa Ong


Oyster Girl was just a sweet little story about how Xiao Wei's family were able to get by after immigrating from Fujian, China to Singapore by her Ah Ma selling her oyster cakes. It's ultimately though of keeping your culture and traditions alive even when you are far from home. The art is absolutely wonderful as well, and the educational tidbits scattered throughout the book ensure that young readers are learning as well as having fun. The recipe at the end though is what really made this a great read. 

My family will definitely be trying Ah Ma's Oyster Cakes this weekend!

The Ghost Princess by M. Walsh

When a strange set of occurrences lead a group of complete strangers on a collision course where half of them want the world to end, the other half want to save it, and one man in particular just really isn't supposed to be here a hero will emerge...okay I'm lying a girl with a serious case of PTSD, a half Succubus half Orc demon, and a man with a curse will emerge and well fuck some shit up, which will definitely result in the world being saved. At least for the moment.  Holy fuck this was hands down the surprise 5 star read of the year for me. And I'm going to be completely honest every review prior to mine is what made me move it to the very tippy top of my TBR, because I had barely read the prologue and was already hooked when when I saw some of the ratings.  Ghost Princess was absolutely unlike anything I have ever read and yet reminded me of some of my favorite books and anime. Katrina has decided to see if the survivors of Vigor will accept her back, which doesn't go over very well, as a kind of peace offering one of the surviving Nobles tells her Jagger her boyfriend from before the war is alive. With nothing to lose and everything to gain Katrina sets off to find Jagger.  In the meantime, Krutch and Arkady are once again tracked down and after getting away (by tumbling off a cliff) he finds himself in a weird Mission, with a weird woman who is far too interested in him.
