Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

After a daring rescue of The Villain Evie, her co-workers and her boss must find a way to fulfill the prophecy that will keep Rennedawn from literally disappearing. This is easier said than done, though, because The Villain's magic is acting erratically, and it seems to be tied to Evie. Not to mention that King Benedict has put a bounty on her head as well. Trystan, the villain, will do anything to keep her safe even if it means pushing her away.

This was exactly the book I needed at this moment in time. Maeher has perfected the art of using humor to balance out a very serious situation and do I love her for it! Book 2 not only met my expectations, but it exceeded them. My very small complaints with dialogue that I had with book one were nowhere to be found here. And Evie, oh, has she grown, which if the ending is anything to go off of that may not be the best thing ever. But I have hope that they'll all figure it out and we'll have a happily ever after. At least they are better. We also got some additional backstory for Becky, which holy shit did I think my family was dysfunctional!? Hers takes the cake! And some surprising new characters show up.

If you liked the first book, you've definitely got to pick this one up. Especially with the current state of the world, this was the lighthearted pick me up that I think we all need right now!
